Holiday Inn Lyon-part Dieu

The breakfast was generous, and the reception staff were nice. The housekeeping was another story. Our bin was full when we arrived, and I had to clean the toilet myself. In the mornings the cleaning staff were so loud that, although checkout was at noon, resting became impossible from about 9:30. They shouted on the phone in a language I couldn’t understand.

We got a lovely welcome as soon as we arrived, and the hotel is stylishly decorated throughout. There’s air conditioning in the rooms, plus tea and coffee. The rooms are on the small side, and the Wi-Fi kept dropping, so I wouldn’t rely on it for Zoom calls. It also takes quite a while for the shower water to warm up. For the best stay, try for a corner room.

The breakfast buffet was well stocked, and the rooms were comfortable. We liked the location, though the lively streets outside stayed noisy late into the night and made it hard to sleep. We were also disappointed that the only premium rooms on the quieter side had mezzanines, which won’t work for everyone.

There’s a lot close by, including restaurants, cafés, pastry shops and supermarkets, and the metro is a five-minute walk away. The area feels safe and lively. Our room was spotless apart from stains on one towel. Breakfast could use a little improvement.
