Hotel Au Patio Morand

I really liked the atrium, where you can eat outside when the weather’s fair. There’s no elevator, though that was fine for me. The room was on the small side, but comfortable and well appointed. It’s excellent value compared with many other places to stay in Lyon, and the only thing that would make the location perfect is being between the rivers. The hotel is in an old convent, which makes it feel special. The front desk staff were excellent and pointed me toward a great Bouchon, Le Bouchon Sully. Breakfast staff were friendly too, and suggested the cathedral, which I hadn’t known about or considered visiting.

The only real drawback for me was the lack of an elevator. My room was up three flights of stairs, and I clearly ought to be in better shape. Still, the front desk and breakfast staff were incredibly helpful. They recommended Le Bouchon Sully, where I had an amazing dinner, and the breakfast team also pointed me toward the Basilique Notre Dame. This is the neatest little boutique hotel in France’s culinary capital, close to plenty of good restaurants and shops. It used to be a convent, and little touches remain, like cherub sculptures in the walls beside the stairs. I have nothing but good things to say about the place, and highly recommend it.

For someone travelling light and just passing through for the day, this place is fine. Everything is clean, but the rooms are small and very basic, as you’d expect from a 2-star hotel. Check whether your room has air conditioning when you book, since rooms without it get very hot in summer. There’s no lift, so I wouldn’t recommend it if you have heavy bags.

The room was clean and had air conditioning, and the location is really convenient. The hotel itself isn’t fancy or upgraded. Reception were very helpful, even asking a nearby restaurant to open a bottle of wine for us.
