The worst part was being locked out in the middle of the night. Around six guests, including us, had no access code to get back into the building. I was left waiting from 1:00 AM until 4:00 AM, and another resident finally let us in. Before that, we tried more than 30 calls to the different numbers, sent messages, contacted Booking.com, and repeatedly rang the entrance intercom. Nobody answered, called back, or helped. There was no apology or explanation in the morning, and nobody tried to resolve what had happened. The only contact was someone knocking on our door to tell us we had to leave. That level of disregard is unbelievable. Even checking in was confusing, with unclear instructions and poor communication. Reception was closed most of the time, and staff were hard to reach by phone. There are no elevators, so you have to carry your luggage upstairs, something guests should be told in advance. The rooms didn’t feel properly cleaned either, and there was no one available to explain things unless you managed to get through to someone. A hotel needs to provide basic support and security. Being stranded outside for hours at night is completely unacceptable. Read the Google reviews carefully before booking. I wouldn’t recommend wasting your money when there are other hotels in the area at similar prices with better service, safety, and professionalism. I don’t understand how this place is still listed on booking platforms. In my opinion, it should be removed until it can offer guests a safe, functional stay.
The staff were very friendly, and the hotel is in central Lyon near the bus and train station. It’s an old building, though. The room was clean, but the toilet is out in the hall, shared by six rooms, rather than inside your room. The shower is in the room, but awkwardly placed. I’d only recommend staying here if you want a cheap place in central Lyon near the train station.
The one person who was really nice was Christine, so a big thank you to her. The rest of this stay was hell. I’ve been coming to Lyon for five years and staying around Perrache, and this was by far my worst hotel experience. The lobby was almost never open. You had to use a back entrance and buzz someone to let you in, then go through a second door before reaching your room. The rooms were strangely dirty, as in the photo. The TV was locked at a preset volume and I couldn’t change it or do anything with the channels. There was no internet in the rooms, only in the lobby, which was hardly open. Getting into the shower meant stepping up about 40-45 cm, which felt like an 80-85% chance of slipping on the way out with wet feet. The bathrooms were outside the rooms, with seven rooms sharing one bathroom per gender. Paying 112€ for that was awful. Thank goodness I’m out.
I booked three nights but left the next morning after just one. The room was too unpleasant to stay in, and even €5 a night wouldn’t bring me back. It was dark, with old, unrenovated walls, dust everywhere, a dirty bed that didn’t look washed, and too few blankets. The tiny shower had cold water, with no hot water even in winter, and the sinks were tiny too. The radiator didn’t work, so the room was cold. Some rooms don’t even have a toilet. Be careful.
It’s gloomy, old-fashioned and dirty, and the shower head barely lets any water through. If all you need is a bed for the night, maybe it’ll do. For anything beyond that, forget it. I’d sooner sleep in a barn with goats. It’d feel cleaner and more reassuring.
