Hôtel des Remparts

The room was quiet, clean, and air conditioned, and the breakfast buffet was delicious, though it cost extra. Everyone on staff was very friendly and spoke English. They were kind when we tried our French, too. My only complaint was the handheld shower. Without an overhead mount, it was awkward to use.

It was easy to get to Perrache Metro and the main station, and the reception staff were lovely and helpful. The accommodation was basic, but clean and tidy, with a comfortable bed. There was some cigarette smoke smell in the corridor. We also heard noise from the cafe next door, though it didn’t go on late enough to be a problem. And I had a tiny lizard on my wall 🦎.

The bed was really comfortable, and the area stayed quiet even though the hotel is right in the centre. It’s a great base for exploring Lyon. My only issue during the stay was the shower, which was very small.

We’d paid for double rooms with two single beds, but at check-in they said only rooms with a double bed were available. My friend and I ended up having to share one bed. We weren’t happy with the stay because we didn’t get the room type we’d paid for.
