Hôtel Moderne

The staff were all very nice and attentive, and the location is convenient. For the price, it’s okay for a short stay, up to 2 days. The towels, sheets, and bathroom were clean, and the bath had good water pressure. The stairs are very narrow and there’s no elevator, so don’t come with a huge bag, or ask for a room on the 1st floor at least. The rooms are old, with a small hole in the ceiling that might be from humidity or age. You can hear a lot whenever neighbors arrive and open or close their doors. Checkout is at 11, which feels very early, but they can hold your things for a few hours.

The location is right in the center, with lots of interesting places a short walk away, which made it easy to explore on foot. I stayed from May 13 to 14, 2025, and room 402 was surprisingly nice for a 1-star hotel. The hot water pressure was strong, Wi-Fi was fast, and the bed linen was fresh and clean. It had a warm feel, with a peaceful night and very kind, smiling front desk staff. I’d suggest freshening up the walls to make the room look a bit cleaner. For a night or two, it’s a lovely option. Wishing the hotel continued success.

The location was the only real plus. The hotel felt very low quality and wasn’t even clean, and our towels were stained. There’s no air conditioning, just a fan, which was rough with 36 degrees outside. Check-in is late, at 3 pm, and without an elevator we had to haul our suitcases up and down four floors. There’s more I could list, but overall I wouldn’t recommend it.

The room had a hole in the middle of the mattress that hurt my back, and there was no internet in the room. The building needs renovation, with steep, dark, narrow stairs and no elevator. My room was on the 5th floor, though luckily I didn’t have huge luggage. We had a power outage for four hours in the evening, and the room wasn’t soundproof. Extreme noise from outside went on until 2am. Then the fire alarm rang for 10 minutes straight at 8 in the morning and woke us up. Staff didn’t seem bothered by the complaints, and they didn’t even offer a cup of coffee in the morning after all those inconveniences. I’d rather stay in a cheaper hostel. There’s less privacy, but you know what you’re paying for, and the staff are much nicer. Or you can get another hotel in a different arrondissement for the same price.
