Le Royal Hotel Lyon - MGallery Collection

The location is right in the center, an easy walk to the attractions and shopping streets. We loved the hotel's design everywhere, from the lobby and corridors to the room and restaurant. Our room was spacious, with a huge, comfortable bed. The staff were around us the whole time and gave wonderful service. Everything was perfect, and we'd love to return!

Bellecour was right outside my studio window, and the room itself was roomy with everything I needed. The bathroom was well arranged too, with a big walk-in shower. I got there by car in the rain and two staff members came out with an umbrella and helped with my bag. Everyone I dealt with during the stay was helpful. I’d come back.

The breakfast really stood out, and the breakfast team were lovely. The bar was pleasant too, though a renovation could help it. The location is excellent and the hotel itself is nice, but without the restaurants open it didn’t feel like a five-star stay. We’ve heard it will have a full renovation under its new owners, l’Insitut Paul Bocuse, which should help: the rooms feel dated, with phone plugs instead of electrical outlets by the beds, open showers that left us cold, and no towel warmers or much counter space by the sink. Those details seem below what you’d expect at this level. It was our first visit, for my husband’s birthday, and we were disappointed not to get an upgrade. Apparently the manager and receptionist didn’t agree about it, though the room we got was okay. We also asked the concierge to arrange a special birthday lunch, but heard nothing back about whether it had been booked. Luckily, friends helped us out. Maybe I’d feel differently if we returned after the renovation, but this visit was just okay.

The location worked perfectly for us, and we’d happily stay again. We can’t comment on the restaurant since it was under renovation, but the breakfast was wonderful and the bar looked beautiful. At check-in we were upgraded, so I can’t speak for the standard rooms. Our corner suite was spacious and so lovely that we both said “Wow!” as soon as we walked in. The staff were extremely kind and helpful.
