Hotel Sylvabelle

I’ve never felt so insulted or unsafe in a hotel as I did at Hotel Sylvabelle. We were accused of ransacking the room and being dishonest, when all we’d done was pull back the unwashed sheets to check for bedbugs. We found some. The room was run down, with a broken bed frame and stool and used toilet paper on the toilet. The receptionist seemed unwell, gave us terrible service, and sneezed on our passports. This was the worst hotel I’ve stayed in. They’d better give me my £113 back.

The bed was uncomfortable and noisy, and the shared bathroom facilities were in awful shape. The shower, shared with three other people, was extremely dirty, and the toilets weren’t in good condition either. Cleanliness overall was terrible, and the atmosphere wasn’t pleasant. Most of the people staying there didn’t seem to be tourists, which affected the vibe. I only stayed a short time and was very disappointed. I wouldn’t recommend this hostel unless you’re prepared for those conditions.

The location is very central and in a safe area, and the reception staff were friendly. But the room was in bad shape. There was a hardened sock behind the heater, the mattress was very dirty, and the toilet clearly hadn’t been cleaned. At least there were no bed bugs. The toilet brush had white stains on it, and there wasn’t a bin or shampoo. We only got one roll of toilet paper, no daily cleaning, despite booking.com saying the room would be cleaned every day, and there’s no elevator. I’m convinced they don’t have proper cleaners. Hotel Sylvabelle should hire decent ones or pay them better.

The staff told me the sheets were changed every day, but I stayed six nights and nobody changed them once. The place was filthy, with broken furniture and hardly any working safety features. Even the sleeping rooms smelled of sweat and feces, and it seemed as if they’d never been cleaned. Don’t be tempted by the low price. If you stay there, report the hostel to the French health authorities and try to get your money back.
