Le Sully

Parking is something to keep in mind. We managed to get the car down the tight, narrow lane and park outside because we have a disabled blue badge. Otherwise, you’ll need to park in town and walk down. We stayed in the old building behind Le Sullys restaurant. The stairs to our room were a killer. I asked for a lower floor, and she moved us from the 3rd to the 2nd. The room was spacious, with a great view over the pool garden and beyond. Towels were changed daily, which was nice. The main downside was the bath with a handheld shower. We much prefer a walk-in shower, especially for people with mobility issues. The girls in the restaurant were lovely and friendly, and dinner there was good. Breakfast was the same every day, with little variety.

The starters came quickly and tasted okay, and the pasta was fine. But the meat on the menu was dry and tough to get through. The desserts came straight from the fridge, and the cheese was almost frozen. Not a pleasant experience overall. It felt like quantity mattered more than quality.

It’s worth staying overnight in Meyrueis to take in the location properly. The views of the Gorges de la Jonte on the drive between Meyrueis and Le Rozier are stunning and more than justify a night here. Hotel Le Sully is right in the centre of Meyrueis, on Rue de Sully, a picturesque spot with lots of restaurants serving tempting food. There’s also an excellent Boulangerie nearby. The rooms are very clean, adequately equipped, and have comfortable beds, so you can expect a good night’s sleep. It’s easy to find an evening meal or breakfast.
