La Maison Verchant

The property looks beautiful, but the staff turned what should have been a luxury stay into a deeply disappointing one. We paid for a suite in the chateau area with a terrace and foldout couch so two friends wouldn’t have to share a bed. On arrival, we were put in a standard one-bed room in the newer hotel section, looking out at active construction and heavy machinery. I explained that this wasn’t the room we’d booked and that we were friends who didn’t want to share a bed. Staff refused to fix it, brushed us off by saying the room was “newer,” and still charged the higher suite price. They showed no concern for why we’d chosen that room and offered no solution. We also couldn’t get a table at the property’s casual restaurant, despite it being completely empty. We were told we had to book the much more expensive tasting menu instead. When we asked to get food from the casual restaurant to take away, that was refused too. Every request got a flat no, with no attempt to help or suggest another option. The room, dining, and spa came to over $2,000 for one night. At that price, the cold, inflexible, dismissive service was shocking and nothing like what I’d expect from a high-end resort. Afterwards, I contacted the resort to ask for the price difference back because we never got the room we booked. I received no response, apology, explanation, or accountability. The place may look luxurious, but the service doesn’t match. Spending thousands to be ignored, inconvenienced, and told no at every turn was incredibly disappointing. I wouldn’t return, and I’d strongly caution others that the experience doesn’t come close to justifying the cost.
