The hosts know their local products inside out and provide them too. We had a lovely stay in the chateau, with spacious, charming rooms decorated with real taste. There’s a pool, gym, games room and playground, among the amenities. A peaceful place with plenty of character, and one I’d recommend.

Moussoulens makes a handy base for seeing Carcassonne, the medieval UNESCO site, and for longer trips to the Mediterranean, the Pyrenees or the Montagne Noir. The area has a long wine culture and a strong Cathar heritage. The accommodation is a very authentic old chateau, divided into several apartments. The owners make their own wine, though not on site.

The owners are really friendly and speak Spanish and English quite well, as well as French. The apartments were clean and nice, and I’d recommend the place to anyone.

Anne-Marie is such a fascinating person, and she made us feel very welcome. The place is beautifully laid out for grown-ups and kids alike, with a games room, outdoor play area and swimming pool. It’s wonderfully peaceful, too. The moment you open those two big doors, it feels like you’ve arrived in paradise. We’ll be back! Stéphanie and Swan
