Camping de Nevers

We paid around 10 € for one person with a tent and bicycle. There’s a dedicated bicycle pitch at the far end, with a table and electricity, and a little room by reception with a kettle and fridge. The campsite is quiet, with no car or train noise. The town across the river makes a great view.

From our lower terrace pitch we could see Nevers and the bridge across the Loire, and the toilets and showers were in good shape. We’d booked the day before and arrived at 2 pm. The campsite entrance is narrow and easy to miss, so keep an eye out. There’s a small cafe below reception and drinks for sale, though I never found it open. I might have needed to ask. A burger van came one evening, but I only noticed it on my way to shower. A noticeboard or information sheet at arrival would’ve helped. We also enjoyed cycling parts of the Velo Cycle Trial and Velo 6.

The pitch on higher ground gave us fantastic views, and the staff kept checking that campers were safe and doing well. The Loire was unusually high, so the lower parts of the campsite had to close, but the management found us a good alternative. Facilities were spotless and well cared for despite the disruption. We had a memorable stay at Nevers and were very impressed with the attentiveness and service.

Water, waste disposal and hook-up were included, and it was 14 euros, with a lower rate if you stayed longer. Good site and good prices.
