Kyriad Nevers Centre

We found the room comfortable, and the staff were gracious once we’d checked in. We picked this hotel for a halfway stop on our drive home from Paris, mainly because it offered free, secure parking. That turned out to be a relief: our rental car had a problem and wouldn’t lock. The parking lot is a block away, but it’s very secure and is behind a gate at night. I’d recommend the hotel and would stay again if I’m in the area.

St Bernadette's chapel is right at the end of the street, and the hotel itself feels like a treat after its recent renovation. The rooms are small but beautifully fitted out. What really stands out is the staff. They seem to enjoy their work, welcome you warmly, and are proactive about taking care of things. In all the hotels I’ve stayed in, I’ve rarely met people so genuinely friendly and attentive to detail. They even provide an English translation of the menu, which makes ordering easier. Just brilliant.

The hotel was clean and well located, and having AC on a hot August night was a real plus. What brought the rating down was the male receptionist. He could see we were English tourists, although I speak French fluently, and it felt as though we were treated differently because of that. During both check-in and check-out, he cut off our interaction to serve someone else, whether it was a colleague who wanted to chat or another guest checking out. Very disappointing.

Our room was clean and comfortable, and the shower’s two different spray heads were a nice treat. The self-serve drink machines were a great idea too. Check-in staff were very welcoming, and the two young women working there spoke English very well. The location was excellent.
