Le Meurice

The location was the one saving grace, really close to the beach. Aside from that, I was disappointed. From the moment I walked in, the place felt odd, and I could smell very damp towels. I stayed a few days and ran into at least one different problem each day: bugs in the bed, moths in the cupboard, a dodgy bathroom lock, towels that smelled really damp, and an old hair dryer that seemed like a fire hazard. That was pretty much it.

We felt right at home here, even in a busy destination like Nice. The room for three was roomy and spotless, and the hotel is only a few steps from the Nice promenade. Breakfast is well worth having. There’s a good range of quality French products, they’re happy to cater to your tastes, and the price is fair for the area. The French gentleman who prepares and serves petit déjeuner brings real Southern French hospitality. In the mornings, Olga, if I remember her name correctly, was generous with useful advice and clearly wanted us to enjoy our stay on the Cote d’Azur. They also arrange a great trip to Antibes Monte Carlo with a local agency. Booking it saves hassle and quite a few euros. Thanks for looking after us.

The bed was very comfortable, and the room was lovely, clean, and had a nice bathroom and shower. I’d happily recommend the hotel and stay again. It’s in a beautiful spot near the beach, shops, and restaurants. There’s usually a table outside where you can sit in the morning or after a beach day. Construction next door has been going on for years and affects the sidewalk, though there wasn’t much noise or dust. Everyone at the desk was great. The night-shift gentleman was especially patient and accommodating when I kept locking my key in the room or forgetting the passcode. I really appreciated his kindness. I didn’t try breakfast, but people eating it seemed very pleased.

The staff made a real difference during our stay. They sorted out a reservation problem and helped us get to our rental car pickup when the local branch was closed. It’s a small place, so the staff cover plenty of roles, but they still make things feel personal. I loved the art deco look, and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was tasty with a good variety. There are lots of places to eat and have a drink just down the street, and the promenade and main beach are close by too. We’ll book Le Meurice again if we make it back to Nice.
