Splendid Hotel & Spa Nice

The rooftop was the real draw for me, along with the food and drinks. I spent a weekend in Nice and ended up enjoying most of it at Splendid Hotel & Spa Nice, though I didn’t get to the spa this time, which is unusual for me. Even in the rain, the rooftop jacuzzi was a treat. The water stayed so warm, and sitting there with the city spread out below was something special. The bar was great too, with staff always around and making excellent drinks. We had some high end tequila and a classic rum and coke. It somehow tastes better from a proper glass bottle. We ran up quite a bill, but enjoyed every sip. Breakfast was another bright spot, and it came with many bookings, so we made the most of it each morning. The croissants with Nutella were perfect, the fresh orange juice tasted like sunshine, the fruit was nicely presented, and even the bacon was crisp and flavourful. Having it all on the rooftop with that gorgeous view made breakfast feel special. The rooms are fairly simple and on the small side, but that didn’t matter much to me. The staff were sweet and kind throughout, and the early check-in and late check-out helped the weekend feel relaxed. I’d absolutely come back for the rooftop jacuzzi, bar, breakfasts and service. The hotel itself is okay, with a good location, nice facilities and an amazing breakfast. The parking was a mess, though. They didn’t properly read my messages on booking com, and despite saying they’d reserved a spot, they hadn’t. The hotel car park is small, and parking cost 40 euros a day. They also didn’t provide a proper invoice. Fine in general, but not if you’re travelling by car.

The rooms feel a little dated, though they were clean. Staff were friendly everywhere, from reception to the rooftop. The rooftop pool, restaurant and bar alone would earn Splendid six stars.

The service and staff weren’t cooperative, and although I paid for breakfast, I didn’t get it. The rooms look old, and there wasn’t even a complimentary bottle of water. Forget about getting a sunbed on the rooftop. For the price and quality, I’d give it 2 out of 10. This is nowhere near a four-star hotel, maybe two stars would be enough.
