The old church and the local restaurant are reasons to linger in Ozenay, though there aren't any shops or public services in the village. The château d'Ozenay itself is a large, plain-looking castle and a private fortification with bed and breakfast rooms. I didn't stay there, so I can't say anything about the service or the interior. Still, its exterior is worth stopping to see while driving through Burgundy, even if you haven't done any planning.

As we came up to have a look at the place, the host was unfriendly. It didn't feel welcoming at all.

The owner gave us a very warm welcome and plenty of suggestions for nearby villages and good restaurants. Breakfast was delicious on the terrace, with a view of the castle. Our beds were comfortable, and the guest rooms are roomy. It's wonderfully quiet here, with a flower and tree filled garden that's lovely for sitting with a book. The castle is in a charming little village beside a pretty Romanesque church.

There are only a few guest rooms, which gives the place a friendly, family feel. The owner also enjoys telling you about the château's history and sharing other anecdotes. Our spacious, comfortable room looked over the beautifully kept garden and had a newly renovated bathroom. Breakfast on the terrace was lovely. Staying in this magnificent château felt like a real pleasure and privilege.

The village has lovely old stone buildings, and the castle is just as beautiful. Today, though, I took photos of the little church and the village.
