Alliance Hotel Paris

The staff were friendly and helpful, and that's the only reason I'm giving two stars. I stayed three nights and had such a hard time that I considered changing hotels for the last two. The rooms were unbearably hot. Even with the large bedroom and bathroom windows open all the time, I was still so hot I had to soak a towel in cold water and lie it over myself to sleep. With the windows closed, it felt like heatstroke was coming. The staff had a portable A/C, so they seem to know the rooms get hot, but guests weren't even offered a fan. You end up choosing between being hot with the windows open or hot with them shut. Those windows face apartments across the street, so opening them meant giving up privacy. Men would look over while brushing their teeth or smoking, sometimes in their underwear. I didn't pay for a peep show, or to be part of one. People could see me just sitting on my bed, and the open windows also let in loud street noise and constant cigarette smoke. I have asthma, and being woken at 5am by the smell of cigarettes was appalling. Still, the window was my only way to get air. The towels were another major problem. One had brown stains when I checked in and another had hair on it. I hate complaining, but I had no choice but to ask for clean ones. They took two hours to arrive, so I dried myself with bandanas from my bag. Then one of the replacement towels was still very dirty. The stains were embedded, sometimes only visible in the light. No matter how often they're bleached, towels with stains like that need replacing. For what I paid, each room should at least have its own fan, especially when people can see straight in. The building's setup doesn't seem to consider guests. I know many European hotels are old and lack A/C, but in 2025, with global temperatures rising, renting rooms this hot feels incredibly inconsiderate. The room temperatures also seem dangerous for small children. I'm disappointed with the hotel, not the workers. I would never stay again and can't recommend it, especially to families with young children. I saw the owner dismissing bad reviews by saying those guests probably hadn't stayed there. To be clear, I stayed in room 206, and I have a very obvious disability that can't be missed. The staff were friendly, but the hotel itself is rubbish.
