MIJE Marais - Hostel

We ended up with a private room, which was a lovely surprise, and having our own shower made things even more comfortable. Everything was clean. The staff were welcoming and always happy to help, and the atmosphere felt warm and relaxed. Breakfast was simple, fresh and enjoyable, a nice way to start a day of walking around Paris. The central location made it easy to explore the city. I had a wonderful stay at MIJE Fourcy and would recommend it to anyone wanting a comfortable place in the heart of Paris.

The clean sheets and beds made up before arrival were a nice touch, and this is a lovely hostel in a great spot. Breakfast is a welcome extra at this price, especially now that many hostels have stopped offering it. I do wish they'd cut down on the single-use plastic from things like individual jam portions and mini yoghurts. One hygiene concern: the separate toilets have no sinks, and there isn't soap in the rooms, so washing your hands properly can be difficult if you didn't bring your own. I don't know why they haven't installed a combined tap and toilet unit as a simple fix.

The shared space was comfortable, with couches, work spots, a few places to charge your phone, games and books. The Wi-Fi showed a good signal, but I couldn't get internet in either my room or that space. The location is excellent for the price, and the building is beautiful. I stayed four nights. The bed was comfy, but the room really bothered me. The shower and sink were behind a sliding door that wouldn't lock. I had the first bed, right by the bedroom door, so when someone came in late, bright hallway lights shone straight into my face. I also had no outlet by the bed. The USB port didn't work, so I had to leave my phone in the sink overnight. There were two toilets in a small hallway bathroom. They were okay, but there was no hand soap. Breakfast is available, though the quality could be better even without expecting anything fancy. The machine's coffee tasted badly burnt, filled the cup without letting you choose how much, and wasn't good. They had yogurt, cereal, white bread and butter, plus a store-bought cake that was the best option to me. The cafeteria also smelled a bit odd in the mornings. I chose this place because it was the cheapest option in a very central area, but the room setup really bothered me.

The staff were really, really nice, and the beds were very comfortable. The view from my window was stunning. The location is great, with cute restaurants and artsy shops nearby, and it's easy to walk to lots of places. Breakfast is mostly bread and butter, tea or coffee, milk, cereal and a strange store-bought cake. Internet only worked near reception, which was annoying. Fine for a couple of nights.
