The best things were the bed, which was very comfortable, and the location, which is ideal. But I was caught off guard by what felt like a different arrangement after Hotel Gabriel Paris changed management or ownership. I usually checked in at reception and stayed in the same building, but this time I had to cross the street to another building. You enter that building with a code. At night it was dark and a little eerie, with stairs to the rooms and a dark red automatic light that came on as you approached. I never saw anyone else there, which felt creepy. The rooms are small, and unlike on my previous stays in the other building, mine faced other buildings' windows, so I kept the curtains shut. The old Albert hotel also feels dated and could use updates. You can hear and feel the underground metro.

My only real gripe was the heat in the room. We were told there was no air conditioning, and opening the window meant dealing with a very noisy city at night. Apart from that, things were good enough. The room was clean and classy, the staff were really nice, and the location was great. Size-wise, it reminded me of a New York City room.

The location was great, but the room was a disappointment: there were strange liquid stains, a dirty towel and torn linens. Sound carried through the room, and many amenities listed online weren't there. I raised several issues with the front desk twice, but was told to wait until Monday, two days later, to speak with someone. The manager gave me an email address for my photos and never replied. Not acceptable for a four-star hotel.

Breakfast was simple but tasty, and kept us going until lunch. The room at Hôtel Gabriel was clean and cosy, and we could just catch a glimpse of rooftops from the window. Staff were very friendly and helpful. It's conveniently set between two metro stations, with plenty of restaurants nearby. We'd love to stay again next time we're in Paris.

I had a terrible time trying to reach them. I called three times and waited a total of an hour and a half, each time hearing a message that they were trying to reduce the wait. Every call ended with them hanging up after 29 minutes and 30 seconds. I emailed too and got no answer. If you need service, I wouldn't recommend this place.
