The rooms are nicely equipped, and rooms 1 and 3 have a view of the castle :-) A great hotel.

We only went to the restaurant. The pizza was good and our youngest finished it, but it arrived warm while the other dishes were cold. They seemed to have been microwaved, but not enough. The service was the real letdown: the waiter was arrogant when we asked where the restrooms were, asking if we hadn’t seen them at the entrance. When we asked for the dessert menu, he just pointed to the little napkins on the table. We left dissatisfied and won’t eat here again. Maybe the central location brings in mostly tourists, since we didn’t see locals. A couple at the neighboring table were talking about the rooms and seemed fine with their stay. What a shame about the service 🤦‍♂️

We left Pierrefonds feeling pretty gutted. The staff were generally pleasant, but when we mentioned our disappointment, the waitress didn’t seem very interested. We also hadn’t been given bread like the other tables, and the bill came to €94. There’s potential here, but plenty that needs work. We’d eaten plenty of barbecue at the campsite, so pasta and pizza sounded good. The welcome was friendly, the decor lovely, and they rearranged things so our group of five could sit on the terrace in the beautiful weather. The French-only menu was varied, and though neither side spoke much of the other’s language, we managed. The meal began well: the children’s pasta and pizza were nice, as was my partner’s mozzarella and tomato starter. The white wine was okay too. Then our mains arrived. My calzone was watery inside, not hot enough, and had thick, undercooked dough that made the crust inedible. My partner’s gorgonzola linguine was a bland, creamy bowl, not the punchy blue cheese pasta we’d hoped for. The kids’ carbonara was much nicer. It was meant to have walnuts, but we couldn’t see any. We were told they were in the sauce, though if so, they didn’t add anything.

The portions were decent and the staff were nice, but the food was heavy, greasy and not good. The carbonara pork was coarse and burnt around the edges. There was far too much cheese on the pizza, with lots of basil oil drizzled over it. The panna cotta was barely edible from all the starch or gelatin, and the limoncello dessert tasted unbalanced too. I wouldn’t go back.
