We asked for Moules Frites and were told, “no Moules!” after waiting half an hour, first 15 minutes for a menu and then another 15 before anyone came back. No one had even asked what we wanted to drink. We were met at the side door by a sullen French woman who just said “in,” then left on our own at the table. It was empty, and honestly, after that terrible, unwelcoming service, it's easy to see why. If you don't want customers, close!!!

BEDBUGS! The first room was full of them, and after we were moved, the second room turned out to have them too. We had no choice but to leave in the middle of the night.

The clean white sheets, fluffy white towels, hot water, and window shutters were welcome. Still, the room and the dark, worn corridors and stairs felt tired. The bathroom fixtures had yellowed with age, and its clear glass looked out onto other houses. We booked because the place was available and close to Mont Saint Michel. Our confirmation said check-in started at 2.30pm, but the sign on the door said 5pm. We called, got the door code, and were told which bedroom key to take.

The room was clean and spacious for two, and the staff were friendly. It's about 20 minutes by car from Mont Saint-Michel. The check-in details were confusing: our confirmation gave a window of 12 to 6.30pm, so we hurried to get there, but at 4pm the door said reception would be busy from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. Having to wait to check in with dogs on a hot summer day wasn't what I wanted.

There was no fitted sheet, the comforter had stains, and there were small black marks on the bed with dust that looked like bedbug droppings. The toilet had yellow pee and toilet paper in it when we arrived. No one was there to greet us, so we had to call to get inside. The hand-crank curtains took 30 seconds to close, and the room wasn't as advertised. We left as soon as we got there and received only a partial refund.
