Le Grillon

Prices were reasonable, and the crepe was tasty and nicely prepared. The other dishes were only average for us, and we didn’t enjoy them as much. I did miss having music, though I think French restaurants often don’t play any. We left with mixed feelings.

We came back after a year and had lunch here two days running. The young waitress who was here on our last visit is still so smiley, friendly, and hardworking, and nothing seems too much trouble. The food is just as memorable. On the first day, we had the freshly cooked Menu du Midi, which was stunning value. The next day we both ordered Galette St. Jacques with green salad and frites, quite possibly the best in France! We were already impressed with the food and service last year, so if you’re in Pontorson and want great food and service at a family-run place, give it a visit.

We arrived hungry after a long journey on our first night in town and stumbled into Le Grillon. Even during a busy dinner hour, our host took care to seat us, answered all our questions patiently, and suggested dishes that pleased everyone. The atmosphere and attention to detail made it feel like a hidden gem, with wonderful local food served with a smile. We enjoyed the local specialties so much that we skipped other places the next evening to try more. The Galette Forestière, Galette Chèvre-Miel Salade, and Alizée were all delicious. The famous Mont St. Michelle Côtes d'Agneau de Pré-salé 3 lived up to what we’d heard, and the Entrecôte was excellent, too. Dessert was a highlight. We couldn’t resist the Normande and Amandine caramel crepe specials, then had two scoops of Trop Normande for a lighter option. Our time in La Manche ended before we could come back for a third night, but we’ll return to Le Grillon on our next trip to France. Can’t wait!

We wrapped up our first motorhome trip to France with dinner at this lovely restaurant. It was quite busy for an off-season Tuesday, but the staff were very patient and friendly while we tried to speak French. The galettes were fresh, hot, and tasty. Mine had salmon, egg, mushroom, tomato, cheese, and crème fraîche, and my husband had ham with the same toppings. We also had crepes with local honey and crème brûlée, plus a bottle of rosé. It came to €70. The toilet was very clean, with soap and paper available, which we haven’t found everywhere.
