Hôtel de la Gare

The host let me choose whether we'd speak English or French. I chose French, and even though I'm very poor at it, she patiently kept speaking French with me. Most hosts switch to English as soon as they hear me, so I rarely get to practice. The room had a Nescafe Dolce Gusto machine, which I loved, and everything was clean. I had a wonderful, comfortable stay.

The room and bathroom were spacious and practical, despite what some other reviews say. Breakfast was good, and the staff were friendly. The guest rooms are in a small building behind the one you see when arriving from the station, which is only a short distance away. Check the opening hours before arrival, as they're a little unusual. A very nice hotel.

The rooms at the back turned out to be surprisingly comfortable. It's handy having parking, though street parking a little way from the hotel can be difficult in this busy area. Nice place to stay near the station.

The big window was a favorite, and although our room was small and fairly sparse, it worked well for the three of us, two adults and a 10-year-old, over three nights. The hotel is right across from the train station, so even walking over in the rain was no trouble. The area isn't as charming as the old town, but it's convenient and easy to walk around. We enjoyed the short route by the pleasant river and on to the old town. This isn't a luxury place, but the service was fantastic. The reception and breakfast buffet staff were especially appreciated. Recommended.
