Citadines Confluent Nantes

The hotel itself is lovely, with friendly staff and clean, beautifully decorated rooms, but the spa setup didn't meet our expectations. When we searched for a spa hotel for New Year's Eve, this came up, yet there's no mention of the spa on the hotel's signs. Reception is where you learn it's in another building across an uncovered courtyard, beneath an old people's residence. You have to carry all your things across, then walk through a foyer where old people are playing cards. There's no fluffy white robe and slippers waiting, or relaxing trip down in a lift to an oasis. It's just a small pool and steam room in that separate building. The hotel is nice, but this was disappointing.

Update: I'm a repeat guest and my first stay was great. It's an easy walk from the town centre, with the tram and bus right nearby. Walk alongside the tram for the quickest, easiest route in. Having a kitchen in the room is handy for quick meals when going out isn't convenient, and the rooms were quiet with comfortable beds. I highly recommended it then. On checking in, I heard the manager dealing with a very loud, rude English speaker on the phone. Before leaving, I spoke with her because the phone app had blocked me from adding my husband to an upcoming booking. As soon as she heard me speak English, she said she'd spoken with me on the phone. I explained it wasn't me, and she went to the computer and changed something. When I came back for my second stay, I got a room where everything was broken and noisy. I felt punished because another English speaker had been rude to the manager. I'm sorry she was treated badly, but it wasn't by me. She started shaking and acting nervously, didn't listen, and overreacted to everything I said. My return visit was the complete opposite of the first.

The staff were nice, the rooms were spacious, the beds comfortable, and there was coffee. It's also close to the airport. Still, this was probably the poorest 4* hotel I've stayed at so far. The fridge, bins, and floor were still dirty. The windows couldn't be opened and the temperature couldn't be adjusted, though the strange smell and heat did get better over time because of the AC. There was no daily cleaning. Breakfast had less variety and lower quality than I expected from other 4* hotels. Plastic was everywhere, from the sheets and room floors to the breakfast mats. To use the pool, you have to take your things across the yard to another building and ask that receptionist how to find it. The city centre is far away, although there's a tram stop nearby. Maybe Citadines just isn't for me, but it didn't meet my expectations and I wouldn't necessarily recommend it.

I booked one night, 04th - 05th December 2021, after seeing good reviews on Google and Booking.com, and was pleasantly surprised. Room 304 faced the courtyard, so it was quiet, and the room was spacious and especially clean. Check-in and checkout went smoothly and professionally. The reception team clearly enjoy their work in hospitality, and their dedication felt especially warm during such an uncertain time. The hotel is conveniently placed between Nantes city centre and the route to the airport. I've found my preferred place for my next stay in Nantes.
