Mercure Lille Roubaix Grand Hotel

The hotel is lovely, and the staff are just as lovely. It’s well situated, with spacious rooms, excellent beds, and a practical bathroom. I really enjoyed staying here.

I was on a business trip with five hotels in one week. Check-in here was easy, and the place was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good too.

The room was clean and fine, but the bed was poor. I could feel the frame through the thin mattress topper. We stopped for one night on our way home. The staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The hotel feels worn, though, with dark hallways and a small, old, gloomy elevator. It could use an update with lighter colors throughout.

I’d choose a nicer place for the same double price. There are hotels in better locations that are better renovated, quieter, and much friendlier. I stayed here in January after booking and paying through Expedia. The first impression was okay, and while the room wasn’t great, it seemed adequate for two nights. At night it was very noisy, with sounds from both the corridor and neighboring rooms carrying through. Then a fire alarm woke me at 6 a.m. I went to the lobby, where it seemed to be a false alarm, but it took nearly 30 minutes for them to turn it off. Later that evening, I returned to find my room blocked. The receptionist asked me to pay, which surprised me, but I did. When I checked my booking afterward, it was already prepaid, so I’d paid twice. The receptionist acknowledged the mistake and promised to arrange a refund. Nothing happened. I called again and got another promise, but still nothing. I emailed and got no reply, then called twice more and heard more empty assurances. On my last call, the woman said, seriously, that I had deleted the booking and it was no longer their problem. I thought she was joking and asked twice; she confirmed it both times.
