Maison du Chatelain - Zoo de Beauval

There was no one to meet us when we arrived, just an intercom, and no access code. Another group turned up at the same time and also couldn't get into the building. No one answered the phone numbers we’d been given. Eventually a French man called us. He told the other group they were booked at another location, so their kids had to drag their luggage over cobbled streets. Our situation was worse: the room we’d paid for through a third party had been overbooked, and because we arrived last, it was gone. There was no apology, except perhaps an excuse about his booking software. He blamed us for not contacting them in advance and said the third party had provided a phone number that didn't work. I got a full refund and compensation from the third party, which hadn't known about the hotel’s decision to dump us. I guess the French guy wasn't honest. I'm glad I speak French fluently, as a stranger on their own would have had a hard time. There’s no parking at the property either, so you have to haul your luggage at least a block.
