Kyriad Direct Caen Nord - Memorial

Handy for a quick stay: parking was easy, the price was good, and the service was friendly. The rooms are small, but each has its own bathroom. Breakfast is very basic. It's a little way from town, though there's a supermarket and a service station right nearby. You can cancel on the day you book, too. Clean and perfectly fine for a short visit.

Phillipe at reception was cheerful and helpful, and the room was pleasant with clean, tidy sheets and a great bathroom. For a two-star place, it has what you need. It's in a business park, with a supermarket about 100 yards away and cafes and restaurants close by.

The beds were more comfortable than I expected, and the shower had really strong pressure. This was my second stay, and the first since Kyriad took over. Having an en-suite bathroom in every room is an improvement, though the shared showers and toilets before hadn't bothered us. We found a few small patches of mould in the room, which seems to happen at budget hotels. Breakfast was good, but there are only 11 seats, so we had to wait, and I ended up standing through the meal. Not great with a hungry child. With the layout and limited space, I can't see how they could add more seating. A good stay, though there's room to improve.

The staff were friendly, but the room was damp, had black mould, and hadn't been cleaned properly. Being cheap doesn't excuse that kind of poor upkeep. We only stayed because we arrived at midnight and had to leave at 6 the next morning. I'd strongly suggest sleeping somewhere else. These pictures are from room 125.
