Chambres d'hôtes La Vergne

My wife and I were the friends Frits 't Hart mentioned in his review, and we agree with everything he said. We had six wonderful days with this hospitable couple. The breakfasts and dinners were good, and Stef worked hard to keep the pool at a lovely 27-28 degrees. Playing pétanque with him was great fun too. Their hospitality and willingness to make us feel at home really touched us. Golfers in particular will find this Chambre d'Hôtes a great base for several days. After walking 18 holes, it was lovely to come “home,” skip the shopping, and enjoy dinner cooked by Nicky. You can help yourself to good red, white, or rosé house wine after marking it on the list. We’d definitely recommend this place.

Nicky and Stefaan were great sources of local tips, with driving maps and suggestions for excursions. The restaurant they recommended, La Terrasse, was excellent too. They’re easygoing and close to nature, with Nicky handling the organizing and cooking while Stefaan mostly works behind the scenes. Together, they seem happy with the life they began here seven years ago. There’s a large heated pool and a pétanque court, comfortable lounge chairs and cozy seating spots, plus a big table under a canopy for rainy weather. Nature is all around. They keep ornamental chickens, two pot-bellied pigs, and about six cats that don’t come into the property. We also saw two coypu grazing peacefully there. We spent a week there last week with friends at Chambres d'hôtes La Vergne in the Dordogne. We were made to feel welcome from the arrival drink right through to the goodbye wave. Our room had a comfortable double bed, wardrobe, and bathroom with a toilet and shower. Breakfast was plentiful each day, with homemade bread and special accompaniments, plus croissants, pain au chocolat, fruit, juice, coffee, or tea. We also ate dinner there four times. Nicky made delicious, healthy, varied meals. Highly recommended!

We had a wonderful four days with Nicky and Stef. The room was lovely, tidy, and very clean, and the pool was a treat. They were perfect hosts, and breakfast was delicious. I’d recommend the place to families and couples, young and old.

The beds were really comfortable, and the rooms spacious. The food and cleanliness were both great, and the owners were lovely. We had a dream week at Steph and Nickie's place, with the pool as a real treat. Highly recommend, and I’d gladly come back! ❤❤
