Campanile Dax - Saint Paul Lès Dax

I had a truly horrible experience and will never stay here again. At check-in, the receptionist was unhelpful, and I had to ask to change rooms. The second room wasn’t much better: no toilet paper or hair dryer. She said she’d bring the glass of wine I ordered to my room, but it never arrived. There was no phone in the room, so I couldn’t call reception to remind her. It’s a shame, because the place we stayed at in Le Mans the night before was great, and I wrongly expected this one to be similar.

*Update, February 2026:* Good to see the hotel putting money into more updates and maintenance. The WiFi is excellent! The hotel was a bit tired and needed some maintenance, but it’s a Campanile, you’ve got to love ’em. Our room was clean and the bed super comfortable. A walk around the lake opposite is a real bonus.

The room was okay, although I had to kill two beetles in the bathroom. The food was terrible: my wife’s pizza wasn’t cooked, the buffet starters looked like they’d been sitting out for days, and the soup was just hot water.

The room was in awful shape: crumbling walls, black mould across the bathroom ceiling, dusty floors and unmade beds. The air conditioning leaked and didn’t work. The manager gave us an icy greeting, then, when we came back just five minutes later to ask for a refund so we could find another hotel, she refused to speak to us, turned her back and said she doesn’t do refunds. The place felt straight out of a 1970s horror movie. I’m still waiting to get our 100€ back from Booking.
