La Maison Févret

The view from the back window over the rooftops and the Armancon River was splendid, while the entrance is right in Semur's historic center. We spent three days at "La Maison Févret," a welcoming guesthouse in a genuine 18th-century family home. The building is in good condition, though it has never had a major renovation. That leaves it feeling like a magical place full of history, family, and life. For a few days, you feel like a guest sharing the house with its welcoming owners, Luc & Cécile Bréon.

We parked right outside the building, and the location was fantastic. The old town and several walking trails are easy to reach on foot, and there's a terrace with a lovely view. Breakfast was typically French. The apartment is up stairs, though, and the streets are narrow and often one-way.

The owner had already turned on the heating in both the bedroom and bathroom, which we really appreciated. It was a cozy place, very well located, with a generous breakfast and easy parking nearby. There's no TV, but that honestly didn't bother me.

The terrace had a wonderful view, and staying in such an old building was a special experience. It felt a bit like a Japanese minshuku. The place is right in the town center, with several restaurants close by, and the owners welcomed us cheerfully. Our room and bedding were warm, and breakfast cost 8 euros: hot coffee, orange juice, croissants, baguette with jam, and fruit. Sounds and voices carry a lot here, probably because the building is old. It can be noisy during the day, though it was quiet at night. The shower also turned almost cold partway through, and I was freezing. When we left, the owners drove us to the bus stop, which was a big help since the cobbled streets were hard to manage with a suitcase.
