Les 5 Arches

Mathieu and Pascal were genuinely kind and welcoming, and happy to share what they know about the region. It felt like a real guesthouse, and the house was a peaceful retreat, very well maintained and tastefully decorated. We’ve stayed in Corsica several times, and this was easily the best place we’ve stayed. A huge thank you to them.

The one fixed rule at Les 5 Arches is that they don’t take bookings from families with children, because the property is meant for a “certain type/level” of clientele. That felt strange to me, especially after what happened during our two-night stay on a short Corsica break. We had chosen it because we were looking for a gay-friendly place and Maps recommended it. The photos and reviews were accurate, and although it cost a bit more than average, we decided to treat ourselves. The setting met our expectations: spacious, bright, soundproofed rooms, a big garden with a pool and loungers, a small bar that wasn’t included in the room price, and a nice table for eating outside. One of the hosts makes excellent jams for breakfast. There’s also private parking on the property and somewhere to hang laundry to dry. We didn’t spend much time in the B&B, since we preferred exploring nearby, but after the hosts greeted us properly at first, we didn’t really feel welcome. Nothing in particular seemed to cause the change, apart from a political disagreement that came up at breakfast while we and the other guests were around the table. It reflects poorly on a host to treat a guest condescendingly afterward just because they expressed a different opinion in front of others. At checkout we tried to lighten things with a joke, but the goodbye didn’t have the openness of the greeting. What a shame, because the property is beautiful and has so much to offer. I can’t bring myself to rate it under 4 stars, and I would have given 5, but it seems absurd that someone used to having people in their home could get so worked up over a storm in a teacup.

Matthieu and Pascal made us feel right at home, and gave us lots of thoughtful tips for sightseeing, restaurants, and typical villages. The amenities were good and the setting magnificent, making Gîte Les 5 Arches in Sisco a perfect place for an incredible holiday. If you’re after a little corner of paradise in Cap Corse, look no further. Thanks for everything!

The owners helped us plan excursions around the island. The best chats, though, happened over breakfast on the terrace, with a whole spread of delicious local homemade sweets. The guesthouse is lovely, quiet and set back from the road, with two bedrooms upstairs and two downstairs. It was impeccably clean, and even smelled really nice.
