Hôtel Esplanade

It was freezing, so I asked the elderly woman at reception for a blanket and a heater. She didn’t even bother to bring them to me. She was extremely arrogant and rude, about as friendly as a prison door. I was shocked by how cold and unpleasant the staff were, and by the lack of French hospitality.

The room had a leaky shower so bad that one shower flooded the whole floor. A kind staff member came to clean it up. When my friend and I asked to move rooms, they said none were available and promised a partial refund within a week for the inconvenience. A week later, an email said there’d be no refund and that the shower wasn’t leaking, even though the hotel had sent someone to clean the water and the manager on duty had confirmed the leak. Booking.com is currently investigating the hotel for malpractice. We chose Esplanade for its prime location and decent reviews, but only the location lived up to expectations. On arrival, an indifferent receptionist showed us to our room. The rooms are very small and look nothing like the photos.

We booked three rooms at Hotel Esplanade through Booking.com for the night of Monday, 11/08/2025 to Tuesday, 12/08/2025, Booking Number: 6237671562, for my family and me. We arrived on 11/08/2025 at about 22:00 and were given rooms 52, 53, and 54. They hadn’t been prepared at all: the beds had been used, the linen was dirty, towels were on the bathroom floor, and there was visible dirt. I reported this to a receptionist who spoke neither English nor proper French, and he moved us to rooms 35, 36, and 37. Those were just as unacceptable. There was a hole in a bedroom wall beside the bed with a small cavity containing a dead mouse. The walls had cobwebs and dirt, toilet paper rolls were infested with live cockroaches, and the windows were thick with dust. The rooms had no cooling solution. We documented everything in photos and videos, then left immediately and moved to another hotel.

The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. It was dirty and expensive, there was no shampoo, the water turned cold, and the bed was broken. Very bad.
