Campanile Marne La Vallee - Torcy

Bay 2 is a five-minute walk in the same direction as the station, with a big Carrefour supermarket, New Yorker clothing shop, Burger King, and even a decent 24-hour gym if you're staying longer than a week. The hotel also serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner for extra cost, and I highly recommend the breakfast buffet. Our only silly complaint was that the TV had no English channels. This was our first trip to France, to see Disneyland and central Paris. Torcy station is a short, pleasant five-minute walk away, and from there it's two stops to Disneyland and 11 to Châtelet les Halles, handy for tourist sights. The hotel felt a bit like a holiday camp chalet, so don't expect anything fancy. It's simple, just right as somewhere to sleep for a week. Staff were really friendly, and sorry we couldn't speak or understand French, so we relied on a translation app. The room was small but nice, and had a kettle we didn't end up using.

The website photos were so unlike what we found that we felt completely misled. We booked three nights for £400, drawn by the advertised distance of about 20 minutes from Disneyland Paris and the pictures online. I don't write bad reviews lightly and have stayed in hotels across different countries, but this was my worst hotel experience. There were three of us in a very small, dark room with poor lighting from a single dim bulb. It smelled unpleasant, the Wi-Fi didn't work at all, and the TV was out of order. There was no fridge, clothes cupboard, hairdryer, or iron. After a day at Disneyland, we came back to a room that hadn't been cleaned or tidied. The front desk brushed off our concerns and said nothing could be done, our room couldn't be changed, and there'd be no refund. They left it up to us whether to stay or go. It was deeply disappointing, and I can't recommend the hotel. Be aware that the online pictures don't match what you'll find in person.

The room's lighting was poor, as another reviewer mentioned. With the curtains open and daylight coming in, you could see properly, and the bathroom lighting was great. The room was relatively modernized and very clean, so I couldn't fault it for that. Good value if you just need somewhere to sleep and recharge. It's a 10-15 minute walk from Torcy RER station, about 15 minutes by train to Disneyland Paris or 40 to the city centre. I saw complaints about the staff and had a rough first impression too: the woman at reception seemed to be having a difficult day, which can happen, but check-in was slow. Not all the staff spoke English, though they clearly tried their best.

The bedrooms were clean and the location is good for Disneyland Paris. But would you want to stay somewhere when someone might just walk into your room? At 9:50 in the morning, a service worker came straight into our room without warning, and my girlfriend and I yelled at her to leave. I reported it to reception, where they didn't seem surprised. They said breakfast ran until 11, yet by 10:40 the whole buffet had been cleared. We only managed to get something to eat after a heated discussion. Quite a start to the day.
