The setting was a big part of the stay: the peniche is docked on a quiet canal with tall maple trees along it and a walking path nearby. We let them know when we'd arrive, and captain Henri was there to welcome us and show us around. The boat feels airy and lovely, with beautiful design throughout. There are three bedrooms; ours, the Brigantine room, had its own shower and bathroom. The bed and comforter were incredibly comfortable. Henri made breakfast each morning, with warm bread, ham, jams, butter, juice and coffee. He also got the jacuzzi ready. Sitting in it on a French canal with rosé as the sun went down on a cool spring evening was hard to beat. We had plenty of privacy, and it was also lovely to talk with Henri. He was kind, attentive and very helpful. He mentioned that stays can be customized, with a cook to prepare dinner or even a boat trip along the canal to places such as Carcassonne. We'd love to return. Those two nights were a dream, and we couldn't have asked for a more memorable experience.
