I’ve stayed at LABE hotel several times this year, and the welcoming, attentive staff are what keep standing out. There’s a personal touch that seems harder to find these days. Breakfast deserves a mention too: it’s more substantial than a Continental spread, with plenty of choice and products that seem mostly local and are clearly selected for quality. On one recent visit, they’d made a terrific fruit salad on site early that morning. The hotel is in a thoroughly renovated older building. Rooms are comfortable, with modern furnishings and a quirky, personal style, so it doesn’t feel like a chain or a generic business hotel. It’s right beside the train station, which is convenient for me since I arrive by train and can get in and out easily. It’s handy if you don’t want to haul bags and want to be in the heart of town, though it may not suit someone after the countryside or a quiet suburb. There are stairs and hallways, and although there is an elevator, the historic building may not be ideal for people with mobility issues.

The reception woman was genuinely kind and tried to help by moving us to another room, but that one was even dirtier than the first. Dust was visible on the floor and in the shower, and the cleanliness wasn’t at the level I’d expect from a 4-star hotel. The air conditioning was also noisy enough to make it hard to fall asleep. This felt like a completely basic hotel, nothing more. Apart from the staff, who were truly very kind, I couldn’t find anything good about it.

I stayed here 18 months ago and am thinking of coming back. It’s a wonderful, unique place. I noticed a couple of two-star reviews, but if you’re after a Ritz-Carlton experience, go stay at a Ritz-Carlton!

The rooms are lovely, and the service was amazing. Breakfast didn't have the widest choice, but there was everything we needed and it was all really tasty.

Our room was clean, nicely decorated, and felt upscale, with an amazing view. We were also just steps from everything we needed. Breakfast was great, and every person we met at reception, during breakfast, or bringing room service was incredibly sweet. When they found out I was sick, they went out of their way to help, which made a real difference. I'd happily recommend this hotel.
