Ace Hôtel Valence

The room was roomy enough for a brief visit, and parking on site was handy. Staff were welcoming and pleasant. But the bathroom light kept flickering, which made using the room uncomfortable. Breakfast was a letdown for the price, especially compared with similar hotels in this category. The choices were very limited: jam sat out in large shared containers, there was hardly any fruit and it looked more decorative than meant to eat, and eggs were only available to boil yourself, with no scrambled option. Even the cutlery was set out with the eating ends pointing up, which felt unhygienic. For one night at Ace Hôtel Valence, the basics were covered, but breakfast and attention to details need work.

A clean, practical, comfortable place for a family stop. The staff were helpful.

I asked for a quiet room in particular because I was travelling to see my terminally ill father. The night I arrived, 11.1.23, I called reception straight away to ask for earplugs, but they didn't have any, and management didn't offer to move me to another room. When I tried to make a complaint the next morning, 12.1.23, the woman at the desk didn't listen or record it. She didn't apologize or say anything. She said the manager would call me at 14:00, but he never did. In an anonymous email, they mentioned the hotel had an 8.5 review score. They eventually gave me a voucher for one free night, but when I tried to use it after returning to The Netherlands to move my last belongings, nobody responded. This was nowhere near the service I expected for the price I paid.

On my return in Sepember 2025, I found the rooms spacious, modern and very clean, and the hotel was clearly well looked after. Staff were friendly, reception stays open 24 hours, and the rates are very reasonable. It's on the edge of Valence, just 2 minutes from the motorway, and convenient for town and nearby places to eat. I'd be happy to stay again. It's still a fairly average budget hotel, though, even with the clean rooms and friendly reception.
