Hôtel la Magnaneraie

The only thing we enjoyed was the bathtub with jets, and the sinks were pretty nice too. Otherwise, the actual stay didn't match the website photos. The rooms and furniture were outdated and damaged, with an unpleasant stale smell, and the toilets smelled like public restrooms. Leather was peeling off the bed's headboard as if a cat had scratched it all over, though pillows hid the damage at first. The cabinets and doors were very dated, with paint peeling; the bathroom door had broken pieces and a handle coming off. There was no coffee in our room beyond powder packets, and no milk. We asked for a Nespresso, but the hotel wouldn't provide one. When we asked about having coffee from the lobby, we were told there'd be a charge. In the end, they didn't charge us, which we appreciated. This place has potential and could be cute if they updated the furniture and remodeled the rooms to better match what the website advertises.

I really enjoyed my stay, and I'm not sure why this hotel's rating is low. It may feel more like three stars than four, but this is an older part of the city, so there aren't many modern hotels around. It has a pleasant atmosphere. The breakfast selection could be better and isn't quite up to par, though for one night I didn't mind much. It's a great deal for the price, and I'd stay again without hesitation.

After a day of travel, I was disappointed by the reception I got and wouldn't recommend this hotel. I offered a simple greeting and asked the receptionist if she spoke English, then had to listen to a long lecture about the proper way to greet people in French. Given the four-star rating and the price, I expected better hospitality from the staff.

The dinner was local cuisine and one of the best meals I had during my stay in France. The room was one of the best I've stayed in for comfort, warmth, and space. Having a bath made me feel welcome and relaxed. From Annecy to Avignon, I was met with wonderful hospitality, thanks to theo in the evening and the lovely Mira at reception in the morning. I had an amazing experience here and highly recommend this delightful, charming hotel.
