We stayed in Tay Lodge, one of the cute little self-contained places to rent about five minutes by car from Aberfeldy. It’s just right for up to four people, with lovely wooden furniture and a stunning setting.

The owners let us use the wood stove, which was really nice and useful, and the prices were very reasonable. The lodges are well maintained in a beautiful setting, still only about a 10-20 minute walk from Aberfeldy's centre, where the markets and restaurants are. My only grumbles were a faulty washing machine and one shower. It’s a real jewel, and I’ve already recommended it to friends.

Aberfeldy is lovely and the location is really good, which made it a shame that the Lodge needed a bit more care. The log fire was great, though electricity costs extra and wasn’t overly expensive. The beds weren’t comfortable for us, but that may just be personal. We ended up leaving a day early. We had problems with cleanliness in the kitchen area: the cutlery, mugs, plates and fridge weren’t well cleaned. Some utensils were old, and one of the shower towels had a hole. The owners quickly brought some missing items and apologised, but by then it felt too late, since first impressions matter. A bit more TLC could have prevented all of this.

It was lovely to sit outside and have a barbecue for dinner more than once, and the log burner was a definite bonus. The lodge had everything we needed, and even my wee house cat seemed to enjoy the holiday. The views are wonderful and it’s so peaceful. For the first time in ages, I properly relaxed. I put out some bird food and loved watching all the different little birds come to eat. Then, to make the break even better, I spotted a red squirrel and pheasants outside our cabin. Totally awesome. We'll definitely return!

Looking down the valley towards the Tay river, the chalet is in a peaceful, well kept spot with plenty of parking. It’s well equipped and close to local shops and restaurants, so you won’t be short of much. A great place for a getaway.
