Loch Maree Hotel

It’s really remote, but such a lovely place. Duncan is a very pleasant, helpful manager and seemed happy to help with just about anything. Supper and breakfast were both high quality. I’d definitely come back.

Our room was 12, with a lovely, very comfortable four-poster bed. It was spotlessly clean and decorated in a beautiful traditional style, with stunning loch views. The hotel sits in an absolutely amazing setting, the food was great, and the staff were so friendly and accommodating. I’d highly recommend it.

The food turned out to be a pleasant surprise. We had a tasty, filling burger for £16.50, which seemed fair to me, and breakfast was a delicious full Scottish with options including eggs Benedict and Florentine. No cereals, but I didn’t miss them. Staff were friendly and service was quick. We had the four-poster room, with a stunning lake view you could enjoy from the chairs or the bed. We also had a drink outside in the garden, then dinner in the dining room overlooking the lake. The location and views are exceptional. The building is a little faded in places. It must be costly to maintain something so old and grand in such a remote spot, though I thought it was generally well presented. I’d read the mixed and often negative reviews and wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. The price seemed reasonable for the location, where accommodation is expensive and hard to find, so it helps to set your expectations accordingly.

We celebrated our engagement here and had a wonderful time. We booked at the last minute, but the guys took us in and made the stay relaxing and enjoyable. The rooms are a little dated, but the location is unreal, the food was excellent, and the service impeccable. That burger was one of the best I’ve tried. The two guys running the place are clearly working very hard, and I hope their new venture does brilliantly. Book it now! Xx
