The rooms at Smallwood house are individually decorated to a high standard, and Christine and Anthony were lovely, accommodating hosts. Breakfast was tasty, with plenty of cereals and yoghurts to choose from, and they could make the cooked breakfast however you fancied. It set us up perfectly for the day. We stayed for two nights from Friday 26th August and would definitely come back when visiting Ambleside. Highly recommended!

Smallwood house is right in town, handy for shops and restaurants. Christine and Anthony made us feel welcome, and the rooms were clean, comfortable and roomy. Breakfast was substantial with plenty of variety. I’d stay here again.

The vegetarian cooked breakfast was the best I’ve ever had. I was also impressed by the spotless, comfortable room and the lovely atmosphere. Mr. and Mrs. Harrison gave me such a warm welcome on my first stay at Smallwood House last week. I’m already looking forward to coming back.

Smallwood House made a great base for exploring Ambleside and the Lake District, one of my favourite places. Anthony knew plenty of good walks nearby, so we could set off on foot without driving. Christine looked after breakfast, with a fantastic range to choose from. The location is handy too, with two restaurants next door, more just a short walk away, and outdoor clothing shops close by. We were there for New Year 2013, and even as we left on 2 January, new guests were arriving. It’s clearly popular, and we’d try to stay here again on our next trip to the Lakes.

The waterfall trail close to Smallwood gave me and my dad a different route to try each evening. If you miss the waterfall, the path takes you up a mountain, and Lake Windermere is only a short walk away. Back at the accommodation, the service was all smiles, the food was incredible, and having packed lunches available was ideal for our hiking days. I’ll definitely come back.
