The location is handy, with Crownpoint about a 15-minute walk away for the main shops and a Co-op nearby. For what I paid, I can’t complain too much, but I’d give it 6/10. I stayed for a week. The room was big and the bed decent, though there was no TV and only one socket worked. The lounge was frustrating too, as other guests kept leaving the microwave dirty, so I couldn’t heat my baby’s milk.

The Mount guest house is currently being used by TMBC to house homeless people and families. The facilities are substandard throughout. Broken bathroom suites, flooring that’s close to derelict, and no way to cook a nourishing meal. There are only two rusty, filthy microwaves. The dining area is constantly dirty, with food on the table coverings and dirt on the walls, and its fridge freezers contain several items of mouldy food. It’s really not somewhere to eat. Breakfast for the inmates sits in the sun for hours, with the milk slowly turning into cottage cheese, and the preserves aren’t kept clean. Many people don’t use clean cutlery. The walk through the building to your cell is a sensory assault. The floorboards creak like an unwanted tune, and the smells range from faeces to mature cheddar toe cheese to the old classic, dirty sweat eau de perfume. It’s a place worthy of a horror movie. If dirt, sweat and faeces don’t concern you, the fire safety is by far the worst I’ve experienced outside a test situation. One staff member was manning the property, with insufficient training. Don’t rely on others to keep your family safe. When sirens sounded, the only authority figure on site seemed more concerned with his smartphone than making sure everyone evacuated or searching the property for what set off the alarm. In a nutshell: 1. Dirty 2. Smelly 3. Dilapidated 4. Unsafe

I thought the bill was very fair, and I’d definitely stay again. The building was quiet, with plenty of parking and bus stops nearby. My single room was warm, clean and well furnished, with a very comfortable bed and excellent linen. Staff were welcoming. The bathroom was spacious and modern, though the shower didn’t get especially warm. There are takeaways, a corner shop and a chip shop within walking distance. I left too early for breakfast to comment on it, but the dining and TV room looked quite impressive. I had a very pleasing two-night stay at The Mount.

A terrible place. The one star is for the staff and management trying. The rooms are cleaned just once a week, and we had to change rooms because we were struggling with fleas. Some staff are rude and nosy. They say they serve a continental breakfast, but all you get is bread and some spread. The WiFi is disconnected around 11.00 pm most days. For what we paid, we’ve stayed in better places in London with much better service and hospitality.

The guy at reception was so welcoming when we arrived, and that’s what the one star is for. The place itself was dirty: the sheets hadn’t been changed and there was rubbish in the shower corner. People smoked and talked loudly outside our window all night, then doors kept opening and shutting from 7am while kids ran up and down the corridor. The photos make the hotel look better than it is. We had the worst night. If you want a cheap stay and can sleep through noise and put up with how unclean it is, maybe it’s for you. I’d rather sleep in my car than go through that again.
