The gym area needs a major improvement and more regular cleaning. My wife enjoyed the spa, and the service was good. The rooms feel like little museums, and the hotel does a great job keeping its ancient character throughout. It’s fabulous, with an ultra-clean, modern room.

The prices, especially for drinks, are my biggest concern. For the quality of the experience, everything feels massively overpriced, which really detracts from the value. I’m glad things have improved since our awful visit a few years ago, and being close to home made us give it another try. We had lunch on a Saturday in mid-February. The food was good, though not outstanding. Service was formal and traditional, perhaps what tourists expect at a place like this, but I found it starchy and cold. Knowing how sincere, personal service can make a meal special, I left disappointed. Unless they do something about the pricing, I’m unlikely to return soon.

Staying in a National Trust property feels magical, and the staff are wonderful and attentive. The food is extremely tasty too. I’ve stayed here twice in 2025 and found it one of the most magical getaways. If you want to feel looked after and special, I’d highly recommend a visit in 2026.

The massage was a highlight of the trip, especially after a lovely morning moving between the pool, hot tub, steam room and sauna. The spa area was really well kept, and I had a great time there before my treatment.

The food was delicious, the service great, and the place amazing. The classic bedroom was spacious, while the small double was compact but comfortable. The disappointing part was that all of us received 45-minute massages instead of 60-minute ones, which felt poor given the hotel’s standards and the price.
