Lunch was memorable, and I’d still rate it 10/10. The food was cooked to perfection and among the best fine dining I’ve had. We started with a peaceful drink in the lounge, where the service was attentive, and the smiling staff gave us a first class welcome. My one small disappointment was the Petit Four: after such a sumptuous meal, the “Jammy Dodger Surprise” didn’t feel suited to a 5* establishment. Perhaps you’ll reconsider that selection. Thank you for a lovely lunch.

The “Kitchen Bench” was a real highlight. I’d just eaten in Paris and at a Michelin restaurant the night before, yet this felt just as special. Watching the chefs work was fun and immersive, and hearing them explain each dish helped me appreciate it more. They were great company, too. Even for a one-night stop while travelling from England to Scotland, Fischer Baslow Hall made a perfect restorative break. The place felt calm, and its closeness to Chatsworth House was a bonus. From the moment we arrived, everything felt warm and welcoming, and the staff clearly love what they do. It was one of the best stays I’ve had.

The mushroom “croissant” starter and beef rib main were standouts, and across the three courses nobody had a complaint. The food was first class. We had a festive family lunch at Fischer's, Baslow Hall in mid-December, after our original group of nine gradually became six. Fischers updated the booking each time without any fuss and were very understanding. We were lucky to get the small “wine room”, which seats about nine. Service struck a lovely balance between formal and friendly. Everyone was called Sir or Madam, but there was also easy conversation and stories throughout lunch, especially with the Australian waitress from Byron Bay. We’d travelled about two and a half hours to meet in the middle, with some family from Yorkshire and others from Hertfordshire. A great afternoon, and I expect we’ll return when we’re next passing through. Thanks to all of you.

For anyone who prefers savoury to sweet at the end of a meal, the English Stilton with a fine layer of British truffle was the best dessert alternative I’ve been served. The dining rooms in this beautiful house are lovely, and the service was discreet, professional, and clearly attentive to guests. I can’t recommend it highly enough for food lovers. It’d be a great choice for any occasion, especially a really special one.

We’ve been coming for 15 years, so we’re biased, but the quality of food and service has always been consistent. If anything, the food has got even better over the past couple of years. It had a Michelin star when we first visited, and to us it’s easily worth two. We’ve stayed at the hotel as well, and that experience matches the dining. The building and garden make a beautiful setting.
