Min Y Mor Hotel

The food and drinks were always excellent, and the staff were fantastic, friendly and helpful, even during the hottest May bank holiday. It's a lively seafront spot, with lots of passers-by coming in for a drink. The hotel doesn't claim to be five-star, so people shouldn't expect that. I was worried the bad reviews might put me off, but I stayed three nights over the bank holiday and loved it. Room 1 has a sea view, sleeps three, and looks over a huge beer garden and out to sea. It has a big shower room, and Barmouth is about a 10-minute walk away. It's clean, dog-friendly, in the best location, with great staff and food. The one price that seemed excessive to me was £2 for a pint of squash. A single ice cream cone on the front was £3.30, so maybe I'm just out of touch with prices these days. I know not everyone has the same experience, but I'll definitely be back.

I've stayed here many times, so I knew what to expect from the hospitality. But the current chef is phenomenal. The chicken liver pâté was amazing, and the beef brisket lasagne, which I forgot to photograph, had big chunks of beef in it. My mate's seabass curry was banging. I also saw the chef come out to talk with customers about the dishes and make some treats for the staff. He's in the right job.

I didn't stay at the hotel, but we had lunch from Rachel's outside food stall and it was fantastic value for money. Rachel was courteous, attentive and very respectful. It was a pleasure to visit. We're here for a few days, so we'll definitely come back.

My wife and I visited in December and had one of the best meals of our lives. Afterward, the chef came out to chat with us, which was the perfect finishing touch to a beautiful evening.
