This is now a five-room holiday let, with a helpful owner living next door. The location has a Barrow-in-Furness address but sits between Dalton and Barrow, just off the A590. Most rooms are very quiet, though one may get a little traffic noise. There’s parking for five cars and a handy footpath across the fields to the Brown Cow. The conservatory makes a great breakfast room, and there’s a comfortable lounge. TVs are in every bedroom, as well as the lounge and kitchen. All rooms have en suites and range from comfortable to luxurious.

Wi-Fi was very slow and only really worked if you sat right in the lounge, which is why I’ve taken off a star. We stayed for a week in early summer and were greeted with a delicious freshly baked Victoria sponge cake. Windmere, conniston and Ambleside were all close enough for hiking and exploring, and we had a great time there.

The owners were very hospitable and breakfast was excellent, with a good range of choices. Our family room had plenty of space and the basic things we needed. The wardrobes were dated and could do with refreshing, and some bathroom areas need repainting where there are marks.

The Yellow Room was my favourite. The place has tasteful decor, with a quirky but beautiful country style, and the people running it are lovely. It’s a nice, quiet getaway for couples, and the breakfast was fantastic. Thanks for a lovely stay.

David and Kathryn were lovely, and breakfast was something special. Try the Granny Chadwick Bananna, it’s fab. The lounge, seating area and breakfast room are all nicely decorated. Our room was spacious, comfortable and clean, and the location is great for staying around Barrow, Urswick or Ulvatston. I’d definitely recommend it.
