On Sunday I turned up for dinner at 8:25pm, not realizing service stopped at 8:30pm. They still welcomed me and made a tasty steak pie with gravy and chips. The staff were friendly and professional throughout my four-night stay, and my room was clean. One morning I slept in, and when I stepped out around noon, the cleaner was very understanding. I came back 15 minutes later to find the room spotless, the bed made, and the coffee, tea and biscuits replaced. The Red Lion Hotel is a cosy place. Room 51 was awful. It looked haunted when I walked in, and the sheets smelled disgusting. I tried opening the window to clear out the stale smell, but it was blocked. I was told this room usually doesn’t get rented out, which didn’t surprise me. There’s more I could say, but I’d never finish. I left the room, slept in my car, and drove away the next morning. This place needs serious improvements.

Free parking and a reasonably priced breakfast, with shops and places to eat close by. The hotel has a slightly contemporary feel but keeps its old-fashioned charm.

The air conditioning kept us cool even with 30 degrees outside, and the room worked really well for our fairly large party of around 100. We held our “Surprise” wedding reception here, and the staff helped set everything up even though we were basically self catering. They stored the food in their fridges and kept topping it up as needed. At the end, there were loads of tables to sort and clear, and the staff did most of that for us too. They were helpful all the way through and made the evening as enjoyable as possible.
