Indigo Bath, an IHG Hotel

Breakfast reservations are required even for hotel guests, but the hotel doesn’t ask you to book until check-in. Times fill up quickly, so waiting until you arrive can leave you with limited options that don’t suit your plans. The breakfast itself was excellent, with a full buffet and à la carte choices. Beau, the hotel’s well-known restaurant, also serves a lovely afternoon tea and excellent dinners. The location is hard to beat: on a quiet side street, about a five-minute walk from the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey and the main shopping areas, and around ten minutes from the Royal Crescent. It’s peaceful at night and well placed for exploring Bath. I travel a lot as an advisor, and Hotel Indigo Bath really stood out. We stayed in Vaulted Room 106, a spacious, luxurious room with beautiful original stonework and a cosy historic feel. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable, the clawfoot tub massive, and the shower pressure excellent. It felt very “Bath” in the best way. The staff were attentive and welcoming. On arrival, they walked us through the hotel and room, which felt personal. Eve at the front desk was especially wonderful, and breakfast staff were warm and attentive too. The team also shared a local guide made by a staff member, with restaurant recommendations we ended up using.

We spent one night at Indigo Bath during our month-long UK honeymoon, and the staff were so friendly and thoughtful. The location was perfect, the rooms gorgeous, and breakfast delicious. This was our second stay at an indigo hotel, and both times the staff’s friendliness was the thing that stood out most. They were just delightful. We have nothing but good things to say, except thank you to the staff.

We stayed in one of the vault rooms, which added a lovely bit of character. The rooms were superb, the staff excellent, and there were no complaints at all. Everything is walkable from this lovely hotel, with The Roman Baths just five minutes away. Valet parking was a big help and meant no stress about finding a spot, though it does cost extra. We’d definitely return.

Being an IHG member, I expected much better, especially given the five-star reviews. We had several celebrations during our stay, but there was no upgrade. I’d emailed ahead about a complimentary upgrade and got a cold reply focused on selling add-ons, without acknowledging the occasions. The complimentary minibar was empty and the promised drinks weren’t there either. After I raised my concerns, the manager emailed back by repeating my comments and offering some reassurance, but no gesture or suggestion of making a future stay better. It felt like a stonewall response, including the exact line, “I truly regret that we did not provide the thoughtful, attentive stay you deserved.” At check-in, the room wasn’t ready at 3pm. A 5-10 minute wait became 35 minutes, with no offer of water or refreshments even after I mentioned I’d just driven for three hours on a very hot, sunny day. The room was a considerable distance away despite my accessibility needs, and when we got there, there were no towels. I called to ask for some and got an unnecessarily cheeky “checked?” in response. We were given generic restaurant suggestions without being asked about dietary needs. One recommendation wasn’t halal, and we wasted time listening to information that wasn’t useful when we wanted to explore the city. My accessibility needs were acknowledged only superficially, with no real thought about room location or support. The stay felt like a string of thoughtless gestures rather than real hospitality. The only positive interaction was with Emily, who genuinely helped us find my partner’s AirPods. I’m thoroughly disappointed with my stay at IHG Bath; membership felt meaningless.
