We stayed one night at Glan Aber hotel after a long walk around beautiful Betws-y-Coed. I chose it because the advert promised private spa facilities, including a steam room, sauna and jacuzzi, and I wanted somewhere relaxing to unwind. We had a one-hour slot, but none of the facilities worked. For the first ten minutes we tried to figure out the controls, and the buttons did nothing. A staff member joined us for the next ten minutes to see what was wrong, then said it might work later, to give it time and try again, and that they'd contact their boss. That was all. The room was fine for a three-star hotel, and breakfast was served quickly and was okay. But we drove 95 miles for the spa, and the stay wasn't what had been advertised. We wished we'd gone to the lakes, our second choice. At checkout I explained our disappointment to a man at reception. He said things break and nothing could be done, then hoped we'd enjoyed our stay overall. I didn't think that response was good enough. We felt dismissed and ignored. It was a disappointing stay, and we definitely wouldn't return. The hotel should say on its website that the spa facilities SOMETIMES BREAK AND THEY CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.

The hotel and its surroundings were lovely, and we really enjoyed the stay. Our suite was clean, the food excellent and the staff very friendly, especially Maggie, who works so hard. Room cleaning was the one letdown. There were no hand towels when we arrived, so we had to ask for some. On the second day they took away all the towels and left just one bath towel. Maybe the cleaning staff need some training on how many towels to leave.

We found this to be good value and would stay again. It's an old hotel, so the floors creak and the walls are thin, and there's no bath. Still, the room was clean, with white bedding and towels. Staff were welcoming, breakfast had a great cooked option and selection, and there was an open log fire. The location was wonderful. We booked through Groupon.

This was a last-minute find for me travelling solo, and it turned out to be a gem. Rooms are priced fairly, whether you think of it as a hotel or hostel. Call the hotel to book so the booking sites don't take a cut, for the same price. Lisa was a gracious host. It's a great base for exploring, or just relaxing. You can book a private hour in the spa room with steam room, sauna and jazzuzi for only £5pp. There's a peaceful garden with fairy lights, an on-site bar/restaurant and around 10 parking spaces. There's also a road round the back, around the church. Choose this hotel and you won't be disappointed.

We booked two nights through wowcher, but the room we were given on arrival was tiny and dirty. The carpet was grimy, and the pillows were yellow and smelled musty. They moved us to another room, but we decided to leave after one night. Staff were pleasant enough and breakfast was nice. I understand it's an old hotel, so dated furniture and creaky floors are expected, but I don't want to stay in a room that hasn't been properly cleaned. I wouldn't come back.
