We didn’t stay overnight, so I can’t comment on the rooms. We had a table booked for dinner on Tuesday and visited at 5:30, but when I went to order at the bar, I was told the wait for food would be 40 minutes. That seemed long for that time on a Tuesday, and I thought it was probably the worst case. It wasn’t. The food took nearly an hour, and the staff didn’t seem to care. The meal was very average for the premium price. My Fish & Chips were pretty awful, with soggy, undercooked batter. Parking was confusing too. The signs in the car park said to pay by phone, but the print was tiny. I assumed parking was free for customers, but there was no mention of that, so I parked in the lay-by opposite. Then I saw a sign going into the bar saying two hours free, but that would be after you’d paid. It’s a shame, as this could be a brilliant, popular place, but it seems poorly managed.

The Swallow Falls Inn staff made my visit a really nice one, and the rooms were clean and cosy. I was on a motorbike and they let me park it under cover. I also used the bus during my stay, which was handy for Ogwen Valley and Pen Y Pass, with the stop right outside the Inn. Reception was efficient and accommodating, and the bar and restaurant staff were attentive and helpful. The chef did a good job too. I enjoyed the cottage pie, vegetable soup and Full Welsh breakfast. The Swallow Falls wiskey is a smooth tipple worth trying. Swallow falls is just across the road, and worth the two pound entry fee. Thanks to the crew for making my stay spot on.

The staff were pleasant, but seemed overworked. It wasn’t that busy, yet one barmaid was trying to serve four people. That was the only positive in an awful, very expensive evening. I don’t know if they rely on the views or simply don’t care because there are always tourists around, but the experience was truly bad. I gave two stars only because the staff were so nice. We’d booked a table, then waited at least 15 minutes to get a drink. We decided to order food too, though we did consider cancelling. The barmaid kindly said it would be a 15-minute wait, so the four of us made a sweepstake on how long it would really take. I won at 55 minutes. When the food finally came, it was disappointing. Two people had ordered pies, but there were no pies. Our friend tried gammon, then Kiev, but neither was available, so he ended up with a burger. It was inedible: the bacon was so overcooked he couldn’t bite it, the burger was burnt black, and the chips were cold. I had bangers and mash, with third-rate sausages and mash that tasted like it came from a packet, though the parsnip was very tasty. Our other friend got scampi and chips without any tartar sauce. When the waitress collected our plates, our friend told her how bad his meal was. She apologized and said she’d tell her supervisor, but we never saw the supervisor.

The food was fantastic, and I was impressed with the service throughout, from the friendly goodbye to the attention we received during our stay. My room was clean and comfortable, and the location was spot on. I had a lovely stay and can’t recommend it enough, whether you’re after a weekend away or a nice family dinner.

We stayed for three nights and got a very friendly welcome. It’s definitely dog friendly, and our room was clean and nicely presented. Breakfast was very good. The evening meals were a letdown because the portions felt small. Maybe I’m being cynical, but I wondered if that had something to do with the 30% discount on certain meals through their App. After the first night, we chose to eat our evening meals at Y Stableau in Betsw y coed instead. All in all, it was a good base for exploring.
