My girlfriend and I are both fans of the Art Deco period, so we were really excited to visit Burgh Island Hotel. It felt almost as though we’d stepped back in time. Every room is different and named after a famous character from the Time, and we stayed in the stunning Amy Johnson room. There was a real sense of occasion in the evening, with many guests in evening wear, and people ironed in the main ballroom. The staff were friendly, there whenever we needed something, and never over the top. Nothing seemed too much trouble. We’ll certainly be back, and thank the staff for their warm hospitality.

We celebrated my wife’s birthday with afternoon tea in the Nettlefold Restaurant, and the visit was outstanding. The January weather was awful, but it didn’t matter. I called just before we arrived, and the hotel sent a 4x4 driven by August to meet us in the car park and take us across the beach to the front door, with no charge. Vlad welcomed us and took time to show us the ballroom and adjoining areas. Everyone was delightful, and there was no rush. William looked after us during a superb tea. He was a true gentleman, kind and funny, and knew the menu and teas inside out. Thanks so much. We had a table overlooking the bay and took our time. My wife was given a complimentary drink for her birthday, a very kind gesture. Afterwards we wandered around to see the Art Deco furnishings and design, which really has that 1920s feel. Reviews are useful, but you have to visit to find out for yourself. I’d highly recommend Burgh Island Hotel. First class work from William and the team, thank you.

The staff made our four-night stay unforgettable while we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary and my parents’ 60th. Everyone was exceptional, from Richard, Matthew and the other drivers, to Tom and reception, the Palm Court bar team, the dining room staff and the housekeepers. Thank you to Callum, Lucy, Charlotte, Jade, Ferhat, Sonya and Tracy too. Sorry I didn’t catch every name, you all deserve recognition. The hotel is beautiful, the island views were breathtaking, and being there felt exhilarating. We loved the outstanding food, Mermaid pool and sauna. We’d highly recommend dressing up in 1920s gear and seeing the live band in the grand ballroom. Thanks for making our celebrations so special.

We felt comfortable and relaxed from the moment we arrived at Burgh Island. The hotel is full of character, unique and beautifully restored, and lives up to its iconic reputation without ever feeling pretentious. The staff were consistently lovely and created a special atmosphere. The food was delicious, quite an achievement with such a large party staying at the same time. Thanks for an unforgettable experience.
