If I’m ever offered a stay there again, it’ll be no. I was met with some hostility from the woman running the place, and we were put in her other establishment across the road from oakleigh guest house. It had been done out to a high standard, with nice decor and flooring, but the lady, Jill, said she was doing us a favour. We paid 120 each couple.

Things started out okay, but then the owner became a bit hostile and kept having a go at us over minor things. She complained about us eating downstairs at night because her camera sent notifications to her phone, though a lot of other guests seemed to come and go without an issue. She put timer plugs on the microwave, toaster and air fryer, so they couldn’t be used after 9pm till about 8pm. Definitely wouldn’t stay again.

Breakfast was incredible, with amazing poached and scrambled eggs and attentive service. They even put up banners and confetti and wrote me a birthday card. The room was gorgeous and had everything we needed, including a little box with cotton buds and a sewing kit. The bed looked stunning, and the duvet and pillows were the comfiest. When we arrived at Oakleigh, we ended up chatting with Mark and Sean for two hours. They’re lovely people, and we had a lot in common. We felt welcome and comfortable, and couldn’t ask for more from a B&B, especially at the price. This was the best B&B experience we’ve had. We’ll recommend it to our friends and definitely return, even if it’s just to see Mark and Sean again. Thanks so much! Frankie and Calum x

Do not go here. It’s an absolute circus. If you like being treated like a prisoner, this might be the place for you. There was plenty of public hair in the showers for you to clean too. Three years ago, the reviews made it sound decent, but it’s not like that now. It’s full of bullies and hypercondriacts.

We’d been staying here for five years without trouble, and Sean and Mark always looked after us so well. Since the place changed hands, though, this visit was shocking. There was no light in the main room or bathroom, no hairdryer, toiletries, little plaster cups, biscuits or bin, and no cooked breakfast. If we’d known it had changed this much, we’d have gone somewhere else. It’s also being used as a doss house, so I’d strongly say don’t stay here.
